PTLuxembourg and the Interdisciplinary Centre for Security, Reliability and Trust (SnT) at the University signed a partnership agreement for research in new information and communication technologies (ICT).
This long term partnership between P&T and the SnT of the University of Luxembourg focuses on innovate projects in the field of the Internet, vehicular networks, “machine to machine” communications, logistics and sustainable development. P&T will contribute know-how and resource to build a research program in these fields together with SnT researchers and PhD students.
As customers demand increasingly high quality and anywhere/anytime available services, P&T views this partnership as an opportunity to accelerate its strategy of technological diversification and develop its know-how as well as its current and future postal, financial postal and telecommunications infrastructure and equipment.
SnT, founded in February 2009 and situated on Campus Kirchberg, is committed to facilitating research in collaboration with established partners as well as new start-ups in the ICT industry. The SnT partnership programme forms a platform for cooperation with industrial and governmental partners. Partners participate in SnT projects by providing basic financing; they also take part in research projects directly by providing know-how. In addition, external partners will contribute at all levels of strategic planning and through representation on the SnT Advisory Board.
Mr. Marcel Gross, CEO of P&T: “In a world that is more and more interconnected, whether by mobile telephony, the Internet, financial transactions or logistics, the reliability of the infrastructure and equipment plays an increasingly decisive role. The partnership between P&T and the University of Luxembourg strengthens the innovation potential generated by the interaction of science and technology. SnT embodies this notion, and all of the elements are in place to bring about these extremely interesting ideas, such as “Connecting the car to the Internet” or the “Intelligent container” concept in the field of transport and logistics. I am convinced that this investment and partnership will contribute to the creation of economic values and jobs.”
Mr. Rolf Tarrach, Rector of the University of Luxembourg: “A fruitful cooperation between the academic and industrial worlds must be based on sharing the same values and long-term objectives. The multidisciplinary and complementarity of academic and industrial skills, in particular for innovation projects, are key elements which will contribute to the success of this partnership. The active participation of SnT researchers in the innovative projects of P&T and the access to modern technology used by P&T represent an excellent opportunity for the University.”
